connection speed
tests your line, not a website
This one is not about a website. It measures the line you are reading on — which is worth knowing before you blame a site for being slow.
About this check
·Why a connection test sits on a site-checking tool
A good share of "the site is slow" turns out to be the connection rather than the site. Running this first tells you which of the two you are looking at, and if the line is the answer then no amount of work on the website changes what you are seeing.
·What the three numbers are for
Download decides how quickly pages and video arrive. Upload decides calls, screen shares and sending files, and is usually a fraction of the download figure on home broadband. Latency is the delay before anything moves at all — the one people feel most and notice least, and the reason a video call can stutter on a line that tests fast.
·Measured in this tab, kept nowhere
The test runs between this page and Cloudflare’s network, in the browser you have open. Nothing about the result is stored or sent to us. Run it two or three times before believing it: a single reading over wifi tells you less than three do.
